Party in the USA!

Happy almost 4th of July, friends. I could have made a entire playlist for the holiday, but this song (and video) is all I really need:

My boyfriend and I will be celebrating our first Independence Day on our own tomorrow. While I will certainly miss my dad's grilling skills and my mom's unbeatable baked goods for dessert, I'm looking forward to attempting my own cookout.

Really, if I end up having half as much fun as those guys in the video, the day will most definitely be a success.

Valentine's Day music

Happy Valentine's Day! Obviously I need to make a themed playlist today, since I do one for most holidays. Yeah, these are all love songs, but they're all so rockin', you can enjoy them even if you're single.

But before I get to the list, here's my favorite Valentine's Day video, made by the hilariously bizarre Jarrod Gorbel of the Honorary Title.

He is ridiculous, and I love it.

All right, on to the music:

1. I’m In Love With You – Timbaland featuring Tyson Ritter
2. Cupid’s Chokehold – Gym Class Heroes
3. Love You Madly – Cake
4. Inches and Falling – The Format
5. L.O.V. – Fitz and The Tantrums
6. I Believe in a Thing Called Love – The Darkness (C’mon, I had to)
7. You’ve Got The Love – Florence and the Machine
8. Home – Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros
9. Love Is A Fast Song – Copeland
10. Tearjerker – Fenix TX
11. Your Song – Ewan McGregor (from the Moulin Rouge soundtrack)
12. Echo – Incubus
13. Mona Lisa (When The World Comes Down) – The All-American Rejects
14. Inevitable – Anberlin
15. The Book of Love – The Magnetic Fields (or the live cover by The Airborne Toxic Event)
16. Wouldn’t Do – A Fine Frenzy
17. I Will Follow You Into The Dark – Death Cab For Cutie
18. Last Night on Earth – Green Day
19. Baby I Love You – The Ramones
20. The Most Beautiful Girl (In The Room) – Flight of the Conchords
21. U + Me = Us – 2gether (no love playlist is complete without this gem)
22. Falling For You – Weezer
23. Friday I’m in Love – The Cure
24. Hard To Concentrate – Red Hot Chili Peppers
25. I Miss You – Incubus
26. I Want To Know Your Plans – Say Anything
27. Lost In You – Sugarcult
28. No One’s Gonna Love You – Band of Horses
29. Love Song - Adele (cover of The Cure)
30. I Want You – Third Eye Blind

Enjoy!

Brandon Boyd's Wild Trapeze

What's up, Blogspot? I haven't posted in ages, but I do have a good reason this time. Exactly one month ago from today, I graduated from Emerson College. Woot woot. Since then, I started a full-time job at Oldways, the non-profit where I've interned since my junior year. We do lots of healthy eating promotion and education. My job there is fun but it has nothing to do with music, so all the more reason for me to start posting here more often. But seriously, Oldways does some great stuff so check out the site (and you can read my super cool bio on the staff page now. Hell yeah!)

So I'm working 40 hours a week, commuting on the bus, and I even have a smartphone now. Yup, I'm officially an adult.

Anyway, on to the important things. The word on the street is that Brandon Boyd is releasing a solo album called "The Wild Trapeze" sometime soon. I am PSYCHED. For those of you that don't know, Brandon is the extremely talented and beautiful lead singer from the rock band Incubus. They've only been around for about a million years, so you might have heard of them before.

All that's been released right now is the song "Runaway Train." I really love it, actually. Listen to the song here:

Sorry the audio isn't the best quality, but it's the best I've found so far.

Normally, I would be very concerned about this "solo" business, even though this song sounds great. Incubus is one of my favorite bands and I would be distraught if they broke up. But they recently put out a pretty amusing video updating fans on what the guys are up to, and that quelled my fears. You can watch that here:

That's all I know right now, but I'll be sure to update when I hear more about The Wild Trapeze, Incubus or Brandon.

A Fine Frenzy gives the Paradise a good time

I've been busy this week. My review of AFI's new album, "Crash Love," is up on AmpedReviews.net. Check out the site, and if you still haven't heard the album, what are you waiting for? It's easily one of my favorite albums of 2009.

On Monday night, I saw one of my favorite people in the entire world: Alison Sudol. She's a singer-songwriter-pianist who performs under the name A Fine Frenzy. Honestly, she is one of the sweetest, most genuine people in the music business today. I wrote a review praising the show for Blast Magazine. (I know, I've just been writing a storm this week).

This is someone else's video of one of my favorite moments of the show:

Anyway, I just wanted to post some of my new material, and this video. Isn't she adorable?

Someday soon I will have more original content for the blog, I promise.

He may be dead.

I'm sure nobody really reads this blog, but I figured I'll keep updating, even if just for myself to remember. Today's our last day in Queenstown. I really like it here, although I'd enjoy it more if it wasn't so cold. My body is not appreciating more winter weather in June.

Tonight we're flying to Taupo, I think. There we'll try to squeeze a lot of fun activities into very minimal time. I actually am looking forward to going back to the US, even though I love New Zealand. It will be soooo fabulous to get away from the snow, even if I'm just headed back to the gross rain (seriously, what is going on with New England weather these past two years?) And I'm looking forward to seeing all my family and friends again. Plus, once I get back, there's about a week until Harry Potter!!! Yesss!

This is random, but one of the many things I love about NZ is how clean all the gas stations are here. And the people who work there look more like happy middle-aged moms and less like someone who couldn't even get hired by Wal-Mart. So yeah, that's cool.

I'm at an internet cafe place right now, so I still can't upload photos, but I'll get to that as soon as possible. For now, I leave you with a very educational video on NZ accents.
